Despite China's offer of talks with the Dalai Lama, he is yet to receive
an invitation from Beijing’s leaders.

China announced on Friday that it would hold the talks, but, according
to representatives of the Dalai Lama, he is yet to receive a formal
letter of invitation.

Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu has reiterated that the
invitation is conditional on the Dalai Lama 'stopping his criminal acts
of violence; his sabotage of the Beijing Olympics and his separatist
activities.'

China insists the Dalai Lama has caused the latest unrest because he
wants independence for his homeland.

The Dalai Lama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, has repeatedly
denied all of China’s charges.a
