Dalai Lama to visit Taiwan next year

Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama said that he might make a
visit to Taiwan next year. Speaking to reporters in Dharamsala,
India, the Dalai Lama praised Taiwan's democracy and said that he
hopes to visit Taiwan next year, for what would be his first visit in
seven years.
"Taiwan-China ties are developing smoothly, so maybe this is a good
time," the Dalai Lama said, "I haven't visited Taiwan for several
years, but I have never forgotten Taiwan."
The Dalai Lama has been exiled from Tibet since 1959. From abroad, he
has been active in trying to promote greater Tibetan autonomy from China.
