"On my part, I remain committed to the process of dialogue. It is my firm belief that dialogue and a willingness to look with honesty and clarity at the reality of Tibet can lead us to a viable solution."

OXFORD -- To sophomore Kimberly Thilberg, there's a special feeling
about waiting in line for tickets to see the Dalai Lama when he
visits Miami University in October.

Thilberg was near the front of a line Wednesday, Sept. 1, to buy
tickets for the public address of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet Oct.
21 at Millett Hall.

The line spanned about 80 people, winding to the top floor of the
Shriver Center, by the time the $5 tickets went on sale at 10 a.m.

"I like the experience of standing in line," Thilberg said. "It makes
it more exciting. You get more pumped for the event."

Half of the 10,000 available seats sold in the first four-and-a-half
hours. Tickets also were available online, with two tickets allowed
per each Miami ID. Sales will open to the public at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 8. They will cost $25, with a limit of eight per person.

Those in line said the chance to hear the spiritual and political
leader speak on "Ethics in a Modern World" was too good to pass,
especially at the discounted $5 price.

"I feel like the Dalai Lama is an important figure and he would have
a lot of knowledge I wish to obtain," Thilberg said.

"I feel like it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Grace
Andrews, a recent graduate who now works at Miami.

Those eligible for tickets could draw a random number prior to 9
a.m., and Andrews drew No. 22, landing her second in the line.

"I'm really interested in the ethics model for leadership," she said.
"I'd just like to hear what he has to say about those practices."

"I think it's a great opportunity for all of us. Important," said
Kathy McMahon-Klosterman, a professor of education psychology.

"I think he's an international figure who has something to tell us
for our time," she said.
