Tibetans at Parliament Hill, Ottawa to urge the Prime Minister to raise Tibet in China

Three Bus loads of Tibetans from Toronto travelled to protest in front of Parliament Hill, Ottawa today,Thursday, Feb 2, 2012,to urge the Prime Minister, Hon. Stephen Harper to raise Tibet Issue during his forth coming China visit. A signature campaign petition and an appeal letter was presented to the Prime Ministers Office with signatories from Tibetans in Toronto.
 
Supporting the Tibetans and their cause from Canadian Parliament were Hon. Senator Consiglio Di Nino, Hon. Marc-Andre Morin, Hon. Elizabeth May, Hon. Rob Anders who spoke at the event. Other supporters speaking at the event were Alex Neve, General Secretary of Amnesty International, Canada and Sheng Xue from Chinese Pro Democracy Movement.
 
The protestors at the hill unanimously changed slogans with  "Harper, Save Tibet","Free Tibet", "China, Stop the killing in Tibet", "Shame on China, The world is watching" and "UNO, No Human Rights in Tibet".
 
Once again, the Chinese government has put Tibet under lockdown and is barred from entry to the rest of the world, until the end of March. Four Tibetans have self-immolated since the new year, bringing the total to 17 self-immolations. An upheaval of protests that followed in the past weeks has reportedly led to the death of 12 Tibetans in Chinese police firings in three separate incidents in Drango, Serthar, and Ngaba. The protestors at the Hill are there to show their solidarity with their fellows inside Tibet.
