Dalai Lama sends condolences to Prime Minister Harper following Ottawa shooting

To Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada

Your Excellency,

I am shocked by the senseless acts of violence that took place in Ottawa yesterday, including an attack on the Parliament, resulting in the loss of life and injury.  At this time of tragedy I want to express my deep sense of sadness and solidarity with the people of Canada.  My prayers are especially with the families who have lost loved ones and those who were injured.  I am presently in Vancouver B.C. on a three day visit and share in the collective sadness of the Canadian people.

While we condemn such senseless acts of violence, I believe these are symptoms of a larger, dangerous situation that we need to meet with wisdom and far-sightedness.

With prayers and good wishes,

Yours sincerely,

The Dalai Lama
