Official delegation from the Tibet Autonomous Region visits Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa

December 8, 2014

China Central Television, December 4, 2014 - A Tibet delegation paid a four-day visit to Ottawa, Vancouver and Toronto for cultural exchanges with overseas Chinese and Canadian officials.

The delegation led by Losang Jamcan, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, started their journey to Canada on November 30.

On Tuesday, Jamcan, also a National People's Congress deputy, met with Daniel Jean, acting Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hon. Victor Oh, Canadian senator and chairman of China-Canada Parliamentary Association in Ottawa.

During the meeting, Jamcan briefed them on Tibet economic and social development and great progress made in recent years. He spoke highly of the exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies of China and Canada.

Jamcan attributed Tibet's leap development to the care of China's Central Government and the help of Chinese people of all ethnic groups.

Tibetans now enjoy full freedom of religious beliefs and the Chinese government respects and protects the religious freedom of Tibetans in accordance with the law, he said.

The Canadian side warmly welcomes the delegation to visit Canada and it holds that Tibet is an inalienable part of Chinese territory and Canada does not support the "independence" of Tibet and is not willing to see the Tibet issue interfering the development of the relations between the two countries, hoping to intensify the communications with the Chinese side to push forward the Canada-China relations along the correct road.

On November 30, the Chinese delegation met local overseas Chinese and media and briefed them on Tibet's history and the present situation, particularly the earthshaking changes.
