Tibetan National Uprising: 60 Years of Tibetan Resistance

CTC, February 19, 2019 - 2019 is the 60thanniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising in March 1959, when thousands of Tibetans were killed while peacefully expressing their devotion to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and their unease with Chinese policies in Tibet.

After 60 years of military led occupation, the human rights situation in Tibet continues to get worse. 155 Tibetans have self-immolated themselves protesting against China’s oppression since February 2009. American research institute Freedom House has ranked Tibet as the second least free place in the world for the fifth year in row. Human Rights Watch recently reported that China’s assault on individual human rights is at its worst level since the Tiananmen Square massacre.

To protest the worsening human rights situation in Tibet and other regions of China, and to honour the thousands of Tibetans who died protesting China’s oppression, Tibetans and supporters across Canada (and around the world) will hold rally and vigils at the following places:
