"On my part, I remain committed to the process of dialogue. It is my firm belief that dialogue and a willingness to look with honesty and clarity at the reality of Tibet can lead us to a viable solution."

THE Dalai Lama yesterday told followers in the UK that he "wants to be a free man".

The Tibetan leader was talking about the Chinese occupation of his country at an event in Nottingham.

He told the audience: "If millions feel that the Dalai Lama is a demon, then I feel very sad. This is no help to solve the problems.

"A final solution must be found between Chinese and Tibetans, that's all. We are not seeking separation.

"I simply want to be free men."
