WARSAW, Poland -- Nobel Peace laureate Lech Walesa has sharply
criticized China's withdrawing from a summit with the European Union
over a trip by the Dalai Lama.

China wants to isolate the Dalai Lama, who is to meet French
President Nicolas Sarkozy in Poland next month at events marking the
25th anniversary of Walesa receiving the Nobel Prize.

Walesa, who founded Poland's anti-communist Solidarity movement, says
Friday that, "I warn China: do not act this way because you are
headed for confrontation with the entire world."

He says, "The world will not agree to your choosing someone his
friends or guests. I, Lech Walesa, do not agree to your choosing my
friends or invitations."
