Kashag expresses hope for an end to the Peace March to Tibet

Dharamshala: Kalon Tripa Samdhong Rinpoche clarified the official
stand of the Central Tibetan Administration on the peace rally to
Tibet, which began on 10 March from Dharamshala, on the occasion of
49th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising.

The peace rally was an independent initiative of five Tibetan
non-governmental organizations, said Kalon Tripa in today's parliament

Kalon Tripa reiterated that His Holiness the Dalai Lama has
consistently supported the right of China to host the 2008 Olympic
Games, which would bring about positive changes inside China.

Lauding the motivation and sincerity of the peaceful Tibetan marchers,
Kalon Tripa urged the organizers to carefully consider and discuss
means, to end the rally, in accordance to the laws of India.

Kalon Tripa said, although the Kangra district administration has
requested to meet His Holiness the Dalai Lama this morning regarding
the rally, the meeting did not materialize owing to slight
indisposition because of flu.

Following restriction orders from the central government of India, the
Kangra district administration, this morning, has detained all the
marchers at a police station at Jawala Mukhi, near Kangra.

Deputy Speaker Gyari Dolma has rushed to meet the detained Tibetans,
who have staged hunger strike in response to the restriction order.

Kalon Tripa further said, the Central Tibetan Administration has been
deeply concerned about the fate of Tibetans detained by the Chinese
government for staging peaceful demonstrations since 10 March
throughout Tibet.
