DPM Shrestha in Lhasa‚ holds talks

KATHMANDU: Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha today reached Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region of China this afternoon. Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, Shrestha was welcomed by Deji, the Vice-Chairwoman of TAR and Acting Consul General of Nepal to Lhasa Dadhi Ram Bhandari.

Shrestha met Chen Quanguo, Party Secretary General of the Chinese Communist Party for TAR. The duo exchanged views on bilateral relations, including trade, tourism, investment and economic cooperation between Nepal and TAR, Nepal’s Consulate General in Lhasa said in a statement.

Shrestha reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the ‘One China Policy’ and policy of not allowing any anti-Chinese activities on Nepali soil. He thanked the Government of China and international community for their support to Nepal’s transition to peace and constitution writing. Quanguo appreciated Nepal’s policy towards China and support in maintaining peace and stability in the bordering areas and not allowing anti-China activities in Nepali territory.

He assured further cooperation and assistance from the TAR to Nepal’s socio-economic development, read the statement.

Shrestha visited the Office of the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa later in the evening and met members of the Consulate and the Nepali community residing in Lhasa. He is scheduled to hold meeting with Baima Thinley, Chairman of TAR Government before departing for Beijing tomorrow.
