Canada Tibet Committee condemns Liu Xiaobo’s sentence

(Montreal, 25 December 2009) – The Canada Tibet Committee (CTC) condemns the 11 year sentence handed out to Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo.

“In the past 18 months, we have witnessed an ever increasing crackdown on courageous Tibetan, Uighur and Chinese activists by Chinese authorities,” said CTC executive director Dermod Travis today. “Western governments must now appreciate that more must be done to protect ethnic minorities and human rights activists in China.”
