Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay will address Canadian parliamentarians about the current status of Sino-Tibetan negotiations
November 14, 2016 - Tibet’s political leader, Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, will visit Ottawa next week where he will address the Parliamentary Subcommittee on International Human Rights, meet with the Tibetan community, and brief stakeholders on recent efforts by his administration to resolve the conflict in Tibet.
Dr. Sangay previously appeared before the Subcommittee in February 2013. Subsequently, on May 2013 the Subcommittee called on China's leadership to negotiate in good faith with the Tibetan leadership in exile, and to provide real autonomy to the Tibetan people.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Dr. Sangay is an expert on international human rights law, democratic constitutionalism, and conflict resolution. He was first elected as political leader of the Tibetan people following the Dalai Lama’s devolution of political power in 2011. In March 2016, Dr. Sangay was re-elected for a second five-year term.
