Ngawang Choephel's documentary, "Tibet in Song,"
takes us on an intimate journey inside 21st
century Tibet; featuring a live array of
endangered indigenous songs sung by Tibetans
themselves, and weaving complex stories of raw
Tibetan beauty, authoritarian brutality, intense
pain, and unwavering resilience in a way never
before seen on film. Ngawang, who was arrested by
Chinese authorities, and falsely charged with
spying while filming folk songs in Tibet, spent
nearly 7 years in Chinese prisons as a political
prisoner for the making of "Tibet in Song."
Ngawang's unique story as filmmaker turned
political prisoner guides the film and stands as
a testament to the power of music to overcome oppression.

"The film's very existence is something of a miracle."
