September 24, 2010

The Office of Tibet, London
September 21, 2010

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting the
city of Wroclaw, the capital of Lower Silesia in
Poland, on the 22nd and 23rd September 2010 at
the invitation of the Mayor of Wroclaw, Mr Rafal Dutkiewicz.

During the two-day visit, His Holiness the Dalai
Lama will meet with representatives of the
religious groups in the city, meet with and take
questions from children from secondary schools in
Wroclaw and give a public talk on the 22nd
September on the subject of 'Solidarity' as this
year marks the 30th anniversary of the founding
of the Polish social movement. His Holiness will
also hold a separate meeting with representatives
of the Polish Parliamentary Group for Tibet.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama previously visited
the city in December 2008 when the Wroclaw City
Council presented His Holiness with the Honourary
Citizenship of the city. The citation of the
Honorary Citizenship presented to His Holiness read:

"Poland, though it suffered immensely in the
past, has never given up its spirit, and the
Poles are now living in a free country. Wroclaw
is a city of many cultures and religions. In the
words of the late Pope John Paul II, Wroclaw is a
meeting place, a uniting place. The ideals of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama are especially dear to the citizens of Wroclaw.

Civitate Wratislaviensi Donatus Tenzin Gyatso
14th Dalai Lama of Tibet is an unmatched role
model in propagating the idea of peace, freedom
and mutual respect. Therefore, it is a great
honour to the City Council of Wroclaw to bestow
the title of the Honourary Citizen of Wroclaw on Your Holiness."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to Poland
this week will be his fifth following previous
visits in 1993, 2000, 2008 and 2009.
