Geneva: The portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is featured
outstandingly among other prominent Nobel Peace Laureates, at a photo
exhibition opened on 12 March at the United Nations.

The caption written on the portrait of His Holiness read as "14th
Dalai Lama of Tibet: For his non-violent fight for self-determination
in Tibet."

Under the photograph, His Holiness signed an appeal in Tibetan in his
own hand-writing given in Bonn on 18 June 1999 which read as "The
darkness of violence can only be enlightened by compassion. We
therefore need to promote compassion with efforts."

The exhibition titled "Features of Peace" is sponsored by the
Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations and the United
Nations Cultural Activities and dedicated to Nobel peace laureate Aung
San Suu Kyi.

His Holiness's handwritten message of compassion on his portrait
reads: "The darkness of violence can only be enlightened by
compassion. We therefore need to promote compassion with efforts."

It will be on display till 28 March, when the UN Human Rights Council
ends its 7th session.
