"As long as human rights are violated, there can be no foundation for peace. How can peace grow where speaking the truth is itself a crime?"

A worthy Nobel Prize winner

The Norwegian Tibet Committee would like to
congratulate Liu Xiaobo as 2010 recipient of the
Nobel Peace Prize. Liu Xiaobo is a worthy
recipient of the prestiguous award. This award is
a signal from the Nobel Committee to honor and
support advocates of civil and political rights
in China. It is also a huge encouragement for
Tibetans fighting for fundamental human rights in Tibet.

Liu Xiaobo has been very critical and outspoken
regarding Chinese authorities policies in Tibet.
In March 2008, Liu Xiaobo's name was prominent
among the original 29 signatories of a petition
to the Chinese authorities calling for dialog
between the Chinese government and the Dalai
Lama, noting the "serious mistakes" in China's
policies in Tibet. In Charter ’08 he mentions a
federal vision for China, in line with Dalai Lamas vision for Tibet.

"This is an inspiration and gives hope for those
of us working for human rights in Tibet and
China” says Executive Director of the Norwegian
Tibet Committee, Chundak Koren. “We are also very
happy that the Nobel Committee are faithful to
their principles of independency, and does not
bow to Chinese government pressure or threat of economic sanctions."
