TORONTO - Thousands of people are awaiting the
Dalai Lama's arrival in Toronto on Friday, where
he will address a stadium full of devoted followers.

Volunteers at the Tibetan Canadian Cultural
Centre in the city have also been preparing for a visit from the exiled leader.

Centre designer Kevin Fitzsimons says volunteers
have been working non-stop to transform the
unfinished centre into a place worthy of the visit.

The building will be complete in March 2011, but
the community has been scrambling to have it
ready for an inauguration ceremony on Saturday.

The Dalai Lama has lived in exile in India since
staging an uprising against Chinese rule in Tibet in 1959.

The Dalai Lama is no stranger to Canada.

Paul Martin became the first prime minister to
meet with him in 2004, and last fall he visited
Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.
