"We Tibetans are looking for a legitimate and meaningful autonomy, an arrangement that would enable Tibetans to live within the framework of the People’s Republic of China."

January 10, 2012

The Dalai Lama met with more than 1,300 Chinese from the PRC who had come to Bodhgaya, India to attend his sermon on the Kalachakra tantra, and spoke to them about the increase of Buddhist practitioners in China, the need to go beyond faith by engaging with the philosophy of Buddhism, and also the growth of Tibet awareness in China.

The Dalai Lama said that the growing interest in Buddhism will help mitigate many of the problems in China that stem from a purely materialist outlook on life, and that that in turn would contribute to a better world.

His Holiness also stated that he had been meeting with intellectuals and students from the PRC on many occasions and added that they show a growing understanding of the Tibet issue. The Dalai Lama also asserted that the Tibet issue can be resolved successfully through what he has been calling the ‘Middle Path’ policy which envisions a status of genuine autonomy for Tibet within the constitutional framework of the People’s Republic of China.
