Hofstra University has reached out from Long Island to Tibet, awarding
its first biennial Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize to the Dalai Lama. The
honor, which carries a cash award of $50,000, is designed to acknowledge
the work of individuals or groups to promote interfaith understanding.
It was established in 2006 by the Sardar Ishar Singh Bindra family and
is named after the founder of Sikhism.
