His Eminence Gyalwa Karmapa embarks on historic visit to US

Dharamshala -- His Eminence the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley
Dorje, head of the Kamtsang Kagyud, left Dharamshala on Sunday to
begin his historic visit to the United States from 15 May to 2 June.
Kamtsang Kagyu is one of the four greater subsects of Kagyud school
of Tibetan Buddhism.

This is Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche's first ever visit to a country
outside India, since he arrived in India on 5 January 2000 after fleeing Tibet.

During the US visit, Gyalwa Karmapa will deliver a series of public
teachings in New York, Boulder, Colorado and Seattle.

In New York, Gyalwa Karmapa will deliver two public teachings on
Awakening the Heart of Enlightenment' at Hammerstein Ballroom on 17
May and Cutting Through Confusion: Discovering the Wisdom of Our Own
Minds at Waldorf-Astoria Ballroom on 18 May.

On 25 May, Gyalwa Karmapa will deliver a teaching on Healing the
Earth with Enlightened Mind at Macky Auditorium, on the campus of the
University of Colorado in Boulder.

 From 31 May to 1 June, Gyalwa Karmapa will confer a two-day teaching
on Building a Strong Foundation for Spiritual Practice and Aspiration
for the World: Transforming Our Hearts and Living in Harmony with the
Environment, at the Paramount Theatre, in Seattle.

We joyfully announce that His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang
Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, will visit the United States from May
15 through June 2, 2008.

In late February, we received confirmation from the Government of
India via Mr. Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai
Lama in New Delhi and Cabinet Minister of the Tibetan
Government-in-Exile, and Mr. Tashi Wangdi, Representative of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Americas.

The final details of His Holiness Karmapa's public events will be
confirmed shortly by the Karmapa's Office of Administration in
Dharamsala, and a confirmed schedule of public events will be
available at that time.

For travel and vacation planning, please be advised that the broad
structure of the public tour is presently contemplated to be as shown
in the schedule below.
