NASHIK -- There is a sizeable Tibetan community in Nashik. In a move
to express solidarity with their compatriots all over the country,
the Tibetan Foundation for Solidarity conducted a token protest in
front of the office of the District Collector. They opposed the
oppression of democracy by China in Tibet.

Issue of a memorandum and lighting of candles by the workers of the
Tibetan foundation marked the protest. Various functionaries of the
Tibetan foundation were present on the occasion. They spoke against
the suppression of human rights in Tibet and the violence by Chinese
Army in Tibet.

There is demand by the Tibetan population for UN intervention in the
issue. The Tibetan people have requested that UN take over the Tibet
region to safeguard the human rights of Tibetan people. It was also
stated that the Tibetans had never resorted to violence but the
Chinese Army has perpetrated a reign of terror in Tibet.
