Poem: I Shall be Free

June 13, 2008

by Tsoltim N. Shakabpa

                       I SHALL BE FREE

                    When the winter of atrophy
Turns to the summer of ecstasy
Will I then see my paradise
And know where my happiness lies
O so long, so long have I been
                  Without country and not seen
               Justice realized nor sympathy felt
From the mid-night run to the sun-belt
Till the jewel in the lotus appeared
And many a Chinese leaders feared
                  Their careers would disappear
And life would be so austere
As I rise to my paradise
And leave them no choice otherwise
                       And so shall it be
                       So shall I be free
