Sarah, Duchess of York made a pilgrimage to see the Dalai Lama
following her divorce from the Duke of York.

Sarah, 49, is not thought to have any formal connections with the
Buddhist faith but sought out the spiritual leader of Tibet in India
in a bid to cope with her "regret".

The Duchess described the visit in an interview with Hello! magazine
and also said her daughters, Princesses Beatrice, 20 and Eugenie, 18,
told her not to consider getting married again.

"I didn't know how to handle the regret, so I made a pilgrimage to
Delhi to see the Dalai Lama," said Sarah.

She added: "I said, 'I can't live with this regret'. He asked me,
'What is this word regret?' It didn't exist in the Tibetan dictionary.

"I told him, 'guilt'. He told me that if you let your mind override
yourself you'll always live with guilt. It made sense to me."

Sarah and Andrew divorced in 1996 after 10 years of marriage, but
have remained strong friends.

Speaking about her attempts to start the marriage on a good footing
the Duchess added: "Andrew and I tried to get everything right. I
told him, 'the minute we're married I must come to whatever port you're in'.

"But after we got married, somebody said to me, 'you go to Buckingham
Palace', and they said to Andrew, 'you go to sea'. For the first five
years of our marriage, I saw him 40 days a year."

The Duchess has been linked with a number of men since her divorce 12
years ago but has remained without a permanent partner.
