Today, 10 March 2009, is the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan people’s peaceful uprising for their freedom. On this occasion, Tibetans all over the world are observing the Tibetan National Uprising Day, to protest against the China’s illegal occupation and oppressive policies implemented on Tibetans since 1959. We pray tribute to those heroic men and women of Tibet who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of the Tibetan people, as well as express our solidarity with those Tibetans who are presently suffering under Chinese repression.

The gross violation of Human Rights situation in Tibet has taken a critical demonstration across the whole Tibetan region has been brutally cracked down by the Chinese killing more than 255 Tibetans and critically wounding a thousand. In addition more than five thousand are suffering under detention and imprisonments.

The Tibetan Refugees in Delhi and neighboring regions are gathering here at Rajghat to proceed a Peace March from Jantar Mantar to Parliament Street at 11.00 am to mark the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day. We urge the United Nations, International communities and organizations to call upon the leadership of the People’s Republic of China to urgently follow “Convention against Torture and other cruel, inhuman, Degrading Treatment and Punishment", and to implement the following:

Stop Human Right Violation in Tibet and in greater part of China.

Immediate Release of the Panchen Lama and other political prisoners.

Stop destruction of fragile environment of Tibet by dumping nuclear waste.
