Tibetan Review
February 8, 2010

To propagate on the supposed Chinese-ness of the
Tibetan people and their culture, China on Feb 6
held a performing arts event in Switzerland
featuring a Tibetan group from Labrang in Qinghai
province to mark the upcoming Tibetan Metal-Tiger
New Year, which falls on Feb 14. "Over 350
Switzerland overseas Chinese, Chinese students
and international friends” attended a singing and
dancing performance given by the Tibetan Xiahe
Labrang art troupe at Lake Zurich, reported
China’s online Tibet news service eng.tibet.cn Feb 8.

The Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland Liang
Jianquan was reported to have hailed what he
called his government’s outstanding policies to
develop the economy and society in Tibet and Tibetan areas.

The performers were from Xiahe (Tibetan: Sangchu
or Labrang) County of Gannan (Tibetan: Kanlho)
Prefecture, an area of major Chinese crackdown
during and after the protests which rocked the
Tibetan Plateau in Mar’08. The artists were also
to perform in Liechtenstein, an independent state situated within Switzerland.
