-- It saddened me to see the Palestinian leadership succumb to the
pressures of the People's Republic of China by cancelling meetings
with the Dalai Lama. ("Dalai Lama visit to Bethlehem canceled to avoid
China clash," Feb. 20) It was a big disappointment to the Tibetan
people to see the government of Palestine support China's continued
oppression and illegal occupation of Tibet.

China's invasion and illegal occupation of Tibet has resulted in the
deaths of 1.2 million Tibetans. The illegal population transfer of the
Chinese into Tibet has resulted in Tibetans becoming an insignificant
minority in their own land. Tibetans have become strangers in their
own land. The peaceful struggles against the Chinese regime in Tibet
are brutally suppressed. The right of the Tibetan people to exist have
been curtailed. The Tibetan word for Freedom - rangzen - is banned
from the Tibetan vocabulary.

Given the opportunity to show some courage, the Palestinian leadership
chose to side with the oppressors.

With sadness,

Nima Dorje
