In the river of life
My fate twists and turns
'Til it reaches the ocean of death
And then my soul
Will swirl and twirl
In the wind of rebirth
'Til it is redeemed
In the joy of nirvana
Though I am
The master of my fate
And director of my action
To redeem my place in nirvana
I place my faith and fortune
In The Enlightened One*, the savior of my soul
And pledge my allegiance
To The Simple Monk**, the protector of my nation
* Lord Buddha
** The Dalai Lama, who calls himself "A simple monk".
