The Dalai Lama will visit the Netherlands for two days at the beginning of June. In view of Chinese sensitivities, it is not known if he will meet with Dutch politicians. Beijing considers the Dalai Lama an advocate of an independent Tibet. However, in December Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen said the Dalai Lama was welcome to visit the Netherlands.
The Tibetan spiritual leader was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989. He has been l1iving in exile in India since 1959.
