Troops Fire into Nyarong Protesters, Arrest nine

Chinese troops and police in Nyarong (Chinese:
Xinlong) County of Karze Prefecture in Sichuan
Province opened fire on a crowd of Tibetans on
Apr 15, leaving several injured and arresting
nine of them, including a woman. Citing Geshe
Monlam Tharchin, member of Tibetan
parliament-in-Exile, Oslo-based Voice of Tibet
radio service reported Apr 19 that the protesters
were calling for the release of three Tibetans
who had been arrested for earlier protests.
The arrested Tibetans have been named as Gonpo
Tsewang, Yigah, Alo, Drakpay, Dawa Drakpa, Gyalshay, Kyalgah, Gonpey, and Ada.
No one seems to have died in the firing.
According to the exile Tibetan governments
Tibet.net Apr 22, Gonpey sustained a bullet wound
on one of his legs and the detained woman's name is Aga.
