GREENE - Filmmaker Tom Sterling will present
"Bhutan - The Cloud Kingdom," at the Sawyer
Memorial on Thursday and Friday, May 7 and 8.

Bhutan is one of three small countries between
China and India, along with Nepal and Tibet.
Bhutan has never been invaded by a foreign power,
so many of its monasteries and art treasures are
largely intact, according to Trailwoodfilms.com Web site.

There is only one highway through the country,
where roadwork and paving are still done by hand.
In Bhutan, mechanization has made few inroads
into farming practices, so it is common to see
cultivation with wooden plows and oxen, the Web site continues.

Sterling's film explores the customs, the people
and the wildlife of this remote land.

Sterling has made appearances across Canada and
the U.S., including engagements at National
Geographic, Carnegie Mellon, The Museum of
Natural History in New York City, The
Smithsonian, Chicago Geographic and Golden Gate Geographic.

According to his Web site, tomsterlingfilms.com,
Sterling holds a bachelor's degree as an
interpretive field naturalist from the University
of Michigan and has made numerous television
specials and films from around the world.

The Sawyer programs will be held at 7 p.m.
Thursday and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Friday. Admission
