May 2009
It is with great pleasure that I hereby inform
you that H.H. the Dalai Lama has accepted the
invitation of the Tibet Charity to come to
Denmark, and to teach in Copenhagen from 30th-31st of May 2009.
H.H. the Dalai Lama will give one and a half days
Buddhist teachings on "Mindfulness Based On Love
And Compassion" through Nagarjunas Commentary on
Bodhicitta (Jangchup Semdrel) and Kamalashilas
The Middling Stages of Meditation (Gomrim Barpa).
On Sunday 31st of May His Holiness will give a
public lecture on the subject: Peace through Inner Peace.
We are very grateful for the possibility of
opening this precious opportunity to hear H.H.
the Dalai Lamas profound teachings to a large audience.
H.H. Dalai Lamas teachings always connect with the deeper human qualities.
Participation in the teachings is not based on an
intellectual understanding. His Holiness
teachings are a guideline to a deeper approach to
peace and harmony, which enables us to connect to our true human qualities.
In general Buddhist teachings do not generate an
income. In the Buddhist countries people give
donations from a warm heart. These donations
cover the costs of teaching arrangements and go
towards benefitting others. In the western
countries, there are many expenses involved in
creating such a large, professional, safe and
comfortable event in a conference hall.
As we do not have any big sponsors, we need to
charge a fixed price for this event to cover
these expenses. The price is calculated simply to
cover the costs, without any intention to create
a surplus. Any surplus from the event will go uncut to charity projects.
Yours sincerely
Lakha Lama
Chairman of Tibet Charity, Denmark

Mindfulness Meditation by Lakha Lama & Matthieu Ricard
Lecture and Workshop on Mindfulness Meditation
Based on the science of Mindfulness and
Buddhist philosophy, Matthieu Ricard and Lakha
Lama will talk about Mindfulness as Meditation
- what it is and how we can train our minds to a
deeper state of happiness or of well-being.
Both ancient eastern contemplative knowledge or
insight and modern neuro-scientific research
indicate that Mindfulness Meditation has the
potential to empower and to modify our mental state of being.
When Mindfulness Meditation is combined with
enthusiasm and perseverance it can eventually
lead to a deeper sense of serenity and fulfilment
that is quite independent of external circumstances or conditions.
Matthieu Ricard and Lakha Lama will explain the
principles of Mindfulness Meditation. They will
guide the audience through simple exercises so
they can get a first hand personal experience of
this meditation and also get a living sense of its positive effects.

Mindfulness Based On Love And Compassion
Nagarjunas Commentary on Bodhicitta (Jangchup Semdrel)
This philosophy provides guidance on how to
reduce destructive mental factors through the
development of unconditional love and compassion.
After Buddha left this world his disciples
gathered what they could remember of his
teachings and wrote it down. From this, emerged
the four different explanations of Buddhas
teachings the four main schools of philosophy.
Among them is the philosophy on the Middle Way,
as described by the great philosopher Nagarjuna.
Bodhicitta is Sanskrit and jangchup sem Tibetan.
It means to develop compassion and unconditional
love. From this basis one can achieve
enlightenment. The last syllable in semdrel,
drel, means to liberate. It means that one can
liberate oneself and others from destructive
mental factors and develop the way to higher
wisdom, which will lead to enlightenment.
Kamalashilas The Middling Stages of Meditation (Gomrim Barpa)
This text provides guidance on how to avoid
emotional imbalances due to negative and positive
projections and how maintain peace and calmness by staying in the middle.
Kamalashila was a great Buddhist master that made
many Tibetans follow the Indian tradition of
Madhyamika (The Middle Way), which flourished in
the great Nalanda University. His most famous
work is Stages of Meditation, which H.H. Dalai
Lama many times has based his teachings on.
There are many ways of meditation. Shamata
meditation is aiming to develop peace and
calmness by distancing oneself from emotions and
thoughts. Analytical meditation is based on
mindful observation of disturbing emotions in
order to achieve a deeper wisdom from recognising
what forms the basis of the emotional levels.
The Middling Stages of Meditation is a
combination of the calmness achieved through
shamata and the application of mindfulness in
order to reach beyond our destructive illusions.
