China policy will not be a topic of discussion
during the prime ministers meeting with the exiled Tibetan leader
Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen underscored
on Tuesday that his meeting with the Dalai Lama
on Friday at his official residence will be a personal visit.
Rasmussen made the announcement during his weekly
press conference after an official protest by the
Chinese Embassy about his meeting with the Tibetan leader in-exile.
This is a personal meeting that has nothing to
do with the government or Denmarks policy towards China, Rasmussen said.
The Dalai Lama travels to Denmark on Friday to
hold a two-day course and is scheduled to meet
with the prime minister on Friday evening.
In addition, he will meet with members of
parliaments Foreign Affairs Committee and Foreign Policy Council on Saturday.
During his previous visit to Denmark in 2003, the
Dalai Lama was received by then-Prime Minister
Anders Fogh Rasmussen. The Chinese Embassy issued
a protest at that time as well.
