Kalon Tripa - 2011: Change & Choice - A Necessity
I am very pleased to announce that we are revamping the kalontripa.org
website and making it possible to nominate and support Kalon Tripa nominees
online. Our target date for the launch is His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 74th
Birthday, July 6, 2009.
The Kalon Tripa initiative was launched last September 2nd, on Tibetan
Democracy Day, in an effort to attract qualified candidates for the position
of Kalon Tripa in the 2011 election. To date, the response has been
disappointing and we are looking for solutions that will encourage greater
participation by all Tibetans.
It has come to our attention that one of the difficulties in getting Kalon
Tripa nominees is the required number of 25 supporters with green book.
Given the realities of distance that separates Tibetans in the diaspora, we
are implementing a technological solution that will minimize the impact of
geography and allow deserving candidates to reach out to a larger audience
via the Internet.
We are fully aware of the fact that a very small number of Tibetans have
access to the Internet and we are therefore asking for your help in
spreading the word about this new service. Please make it your
responsibility to speak with your friends and neighbors about the importance
of this Kalon Tripa initiative. Please encourage individuals within your own
communities with proven leadership abilities to consider putting their names
forward as candidates.
We also urge you take the occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's birthday
and Tibetan Democracy Day to discuss this significant upcoming election with
your fellow Tibetans.
Please note that this initiative is a voluntary effort and any donation
towards its successful completion would be greatly appreciated. Funds
received would help organize a series of debates between candidates. These
would take place in Dharamsala or Delhi, close to the election date.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all the volunteers listed below, for
their generous assistance.
