DHARAMSHALA -- The Tibetan Parliament in Exile
has chosen Dharamsala as the location to erect a
stone pillar in memorial of all those Tibetans
who have sacrificed their lives for Tibet, a
parliamentary committee constituted to supervise the plan announced Friday.

The decision to build a memorial to honour the
contributions made by all those courageous
Tibetans was taken during the seventh session of
the 14th Tibetan Parliament in March this year.

The committee said it is seeking opinions from
the Tibetan people in finding the best design for
the pillar, and its installing methodologies.

The committee will select the best art and design
for the pillar from a list of creative works of
professional artists and designers. The best
artistic work will fetch a cash prize of 5,000
Indian rupees, while the designer will be
honoured by inscribing his or her name on the
pillar and get a certificate from the Parliament.

The committee has set a standard measurement for
the pillar of 4 x 4 (length x width in feet) with a height of 12 feet.
