The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA)
observed its 50th anniversary on Aug 11 with a
grand musical event in which the institute’s two
Houses -- Gyalu and Ngonpa -- vied for the annual
trophy. Indian and exile Tibetan government
officials attended the event, with the Liaison
Officer Ms Manika Jain, an Indian Foreign
Ministry official, giving away the prizes. She
said India would continue its support for the
preservation and promotion of Tibetan cultural
heritage and education of the Tibetan children.

TIPA, an autonomous undertaking of the exile
Tibetan government, has so far trained 483
professional artists, including 110 teachers.

TIPA’s director Mr Wangchuk Phasur expressed
gratitude to the people and governments of
Himachal Pradesh and India for their active
support to the successful preservation and
promotion of Tibetan religion and culture in exile.
