China ranked 168th in a list of 175 countries and
regions in terms of respect for press freedom in
Paris-based Reporters Without Borders latest
list, which was released on Oct 20.
The group said the media in China were evolving
rapidly. However, it continued to have a very
poor ranking because of the frequency of
imprisonment, especially in Tibet, Internet
censorship and the nepotism of the central and provincial authorities.
China is outranked only by Laos, Cuba, Burma,
Iran, Turkmenistan, North Korea and Eritrea, in that order.
