Dharamshala -- A 16-member delegation of Burmese
democracy activists, including two Buddhists
monks from Burma met with members of Tibetan
Parliament in exile on Monday as part of its
visit to Tibetan community based in Dharamsala.

The four-day visit from 24 to 26 January to
Dharamsala was organised by New Delhi-based Burma
Centre Delhi at the at the invitation of Tibetan
students.  The Burmese team also visited Tibetan
women and student organisations and discussed
Burma affairs. They screened a documentary titled
'Burma VJ', which features the peaceful protests
by Burmese monks in 2007 for their yearnings for
freedom and democracy in their country.

During their meeting with Burmese delegation,
Mrs. Dolma Gyari, the Deputy Speaker of the
Tibetan Parliament calls on the Burmese military
junta to hold free and fair general elections in 2010.

"Elections are crucial for a democratic State.
So, we would like to urge the military junta to
ensure free and fair polls. The regime ought to
give its people a chance to elect leaders they
like," the deputy speaker was quoted as saying by Mizzima News Agency.

"The Tibetan people and Tibetan parliament
believe in free and fair elections. The people
have the right to vote for the party they want to
without fear. They have the right to choose. And
the regime known to be repressive should not
force the people to cast their vote in fear," she said.
