Mar 6, 1979: China's State Council confirmed that
Ngari will revert to being a part of Tibet
Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region will handover to it the
region's finance issue with effect from Jan 1, 1980.
Mar 7, 1989: Martial Law was imposed in Lhasa
following massive demonstrations since Mar 5.
Mar 1890: Tibet repudiated a "convention" signed
in Calcutta between Viceroy Lord Lansdowne of
British-India and the Chinese Amban (Resident
Commissioner) in Lhasa, Mr Shheng Tai. The
convention recognised Sikkim as British
protectorate and provided for the delimitation of the Tibet-Sikkim boundary.
Mar 1974: After a meeting with Premier Zhou
Enlai, Ngabo Ngawang Jigme decided to ask the
Panchen Lama to admit guilt concerning his
criticism of communist China's Tibet policies in
his 70,000-Character Petition of 1962.
Mar 1947: Tibet was represented at the Asian
Relations Conference which was conducted by the
Indian Council of World Affairs and attended by
delegates from 32 Asian countries.
