On 6 July 2010, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
of Tibet will be 75. Despite a difficult year,
during which China continued to stonewall his
efforts to progress negotiations and Tibetans in
TIbet once more risked their lives calling for
the Dalai Lama's return, His Holiness remains
optimistic that he can secure a peaceful resolution to the occupation of Tibet.
As a birthday gift for His Holiness, pledge him
your support. Send the following message to ten
of the most influential leaders in the world (G8
+ India heads of government and the EU
President), asking them to facilitate a direct
meeting between the Dalai Lama and China's
President Hu Jintao, so that there might be a
breakthrough and real negotiations for the future
of Tibet can begin. Perhaps one day, once the
occupation of Tibet has come to an end, His
Holiness might even be able to go home. Thank you for your support.
Subject: Support the Dalai Lama on his 75th birthday
I am writing to you on the occasion of His
Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet's 75th birthday
(6 July), with a request for you to take action
and make this year a milestone in His Holiness' life.
Despite the on-going crackdown in Tibet and
China's continued stonewalling of the Dalai
Lama's attempts to secure real negotiations, His
Holiness' resolution to bring about a peaceful
resolution to the occupation of Tibet remains
unwavering, and he continues to be a shining
example to the world for his promotion of
non-violence, compassion and tolerance.
On the occasion of His Holiness' 75th birthday,
the gift that he really deserves is the solid
support of the world's most influential leaders,
such as yourself. I therefore appeal to you to
offer to facilitate a meeting between His
Holiness the Dalai Lama and China's President, Hu
Jintao. A face-to-face meeting would signal the
beginning of real progress towards a just and lasting resolution for Tibet.
Best wishes,
