The death toll from the rain-triggered mudslides
which hit Zhouqu (Tibetan: Drugchu) County in
Gannan (Tibetan: Kanlho) Prefecture of Gansu
Province in the night of Aug 7-8 had reached
1,239, with 505 others still missing, as of Aug
14 at 4PM, reported Chinas official Xinhua news agency Aug 14.
Chinas State Council -- or cabinet -- announced
on Aug 14 a national day of mourning for Aug 15,
when its flags across the country and at overseas
embassies and consulates were lowered to half-mast.
All public entertainments were suspended for the day.
