1. Statement from the Tibetan Government on Talks with China

NEW DELHI, 22 April, BHHDL [Press release] -- In response to
growing international interest in the current situation in Tibet,
Chinese officials have recently, on more than one occasion, stated
that they are in touch with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Such
statements appear to indicate China's awareness and sensitivity to
the issue and that there are already ongoing discussions with His
Holiness the Dalai Lama on these matters. However, we would like to
correct this impression by stating that (since August 1993) we have
no direct communications or discussions of any kind with the Chinese
government or any of its officials at this time.
