A Joint Vigil on 17th May 2005 in Berlin
3. A Joint Vigil on 17th May 2005 in Berlin
Tibetans and friends of Tibet in Berlin held a 6 hour vigil on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 in the down
town from 12 to 18 hours which was jointly organized by Association of Tibetans in Germany (VTD),
Society for Endangered Peoples (GfbV), International Campaign for Tibet Germany
(ICT-D) and the Regional Chapter Berlin of the Tibet Initiative Deutschland (TID). Other regional
chapters of the TID organized similar vigils in their respective town and cities.
Under a tent which was decorated with banners and posters calling for Panchen Lamas release, there
were a lot of information leaflets on the circumstance of the abduction of the young Panchen Lama,
his family and close aides. Between 16.30 and 17.30 hours Tibetans and friends recited
several times the Long Life Prayer for the young Panchen Lama which was composed by the Buddhist
Monk Tenzin Gyatso (XIV. Dalai Lama) in 1995 in India.
The GfbV, ICT-D and TID have made their own separate press release.
The presse release of the TID stated "A country which causes a small child to be abducted and
keeps it imprisoned for 10 years has done away with her legitimacy to be member of the
international community and host of Olympic Games. 10 years ago the Chinese Government has
abducted the
then 6 year old XI. Panchen Lama. But the democratic states in the West and especially the German
Federal Government - dazzled by greed of gain - continue to court the favour of this unjust
regime."
On the occassion of the 10th anniversary of the abduction of Panchen Lama the TID or the Tibet
Support Group Germany as it is often called in english, has started a "Search Request of Missing
Person" with the Red Cross and these Search Requests will be handed over to the International
Red Cross by the end of this month. Anyone interested in participating can also do so online
