Dharamshala 16 May 2005: His Holiness the Dalai Lama will leave tonight for the kingdom of Jordan.
After successfully completing the visit to Dhakpo Shedrup Ling monastery in Kullu, His Holiness
left for New Delhi yesterday.
His Holiness is visiting the kingdom of Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II to attend the
2005 Petra Conference of Nobel Laureates beginning on 18 May in Petra, 260 kilometres south of
Aman, the capital city of Jordan, Voice of Tibet radio service quoted Tenzin Takhla of the private
office of His Holiness as saying.
The conference is jointly organised by King Abdullah II Fund for Development and Elie Wiesel
Foundation for Humanity. Around 40 Nobel laureates will take part in the two-day conference. The
conference will also be attended by former US president Bill Clinton, President of Ukraine, former
prime minister of Singapore and several other businessmen and politicians. The participants will
discuss various issues facing the world today.
The conference, which will be closed for media, will submit its report to the World Economic Forum
to be held in Aman from 20 May. His Holiness, who considers promoting inter religious harmony as
one of the most important duties, will interact with Islamic leaders and students in Aman on 20
May. His Holiness will leave Jordan on the same day.
