Canada Tibet Committee congratulates Chhoyang on appointment as Minister in Tibet Parliament-in-Exile cabinet

The Canada Tibet Committee wishes to congratulate Montreal resident Dicki Chhoyang on her appointment as a Kalon (Minister) by Kalon Tripa Lobsang Sangay to the Tibet Parliament-in-Exile's six member Kashag (cabinet).

Elected for the first time earlier this year as one of two Members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from North America, Choyyang will assume responsibilities for the Department of Information and International Relations.

In addition to his responsibilities as the Kalon Tripa, Sangay will also serve as Minister responsible for the Department of Education.

Former deputy speaker Gyari Dolma has been given the Department of Home. Security Minister Dongchung Ngodup and Finance Minister Tsering Dhundup retained their ministerial portfolios from the 13th Kashag.

The senior most member of Dr Sangay’s cabinet, Pema Chinnjor is the new minister for Religion and Culture while the youngest member, Dr Tsering Wangchuk is the new Health Minister.

Dicki Chhoyang: In 1971 Ms. Chhoyang immigrated to Canada where she completed her M.A. in Central Eurasian Studies and M.Sc. in Planning and International Development. In 1990 she served as resettlement coordinator in Connecticut for the Tibetan-US resettlement project. From 1999 to 2003 she worked on community development project in Tibet. Presently she is a Community Liaison Officer at the University of Montreal Hospital Centre.

The Canada Tibet Committee is an independent, non-governmental organization of Tibetans and non-Tibetans living in Canada, concerned with the continuing human rights violations and lack of democratic freedom in Tibet.
