"As long as human rights are violated, there can be no foundation for peace. How can peace grow where speaking the truth is itself a crime?"

October 4th 2013, 6:30pm (English) & 8:30pm (French)

Montreal, September 23, 2013 – You are cordially invited to the premiere of ‘The Tibet Within’, a Canadian documentary dedicated to the preservation of the Tibetan culture in exile.

Occupied by China in 1949, Tibetans are now a minority in their own country, where their culture is at risk of disappearing. As a desperate act of appeal and protest, 121 of them have self-immolated since 2009. Through powerful images and moving interviews, the documentary pays homage to the Tibetans’ courage, and highlights their efforts to preserve their art, language and religion.

The event precedes by two weeks the United Nations Universal Periodic Review of the human rights situation in China. The last such review was held in 2009.

Special guests:

English screening: Carole Samdup, Executive Director, Canada Tibet Committee.

French screening: Sushil Handa, Coordinator - China, Amnistie Internationale Canada francophone.

 Free admission.

The event is jointly organized by Amnistie internationale Canada francophone and the Canada Tibet Committee.
