Stand up for Tibet! Support the CTC's 2016 fundraising campaign

December 02, 2016

                       STAND UP FOR TIBET!

Dear friend of Tibet,

Last month China began demolishing buildings and forcibly evicting students at Serta Larung Gar Buddhist Academy in Tibet. China has said it intends to evict 5000 monks and nuns by the end of this year.  Students who have already been evicted are forced to undergo re-education and to promise that they will never to return to Larung Gar.

Help us to strengthen Tibet’s voice in Ottawa!

We know that Canadians want our new government to do more to defend human rights in Tibet. We need your support to bring that message to Ottawa!  The Canada Tibet Committee works every day to keep Tibet on our government’s agenda:

·       Following the federal election, the CTC met with Members of Parliament to re-build the Parliamentary Friends of Tibet and we participated in the PFT’s inaugural meeting;

·       The CTC advocates for political prisoners by submitting an annual list to the Government of Canada.  This year our focus is Tibet’s Panchen Lama, detained since 1995;

·       In April, the CTC organized a visit to Ottawa for the Tibetan Minister of International Relations to update Members of Parliament about the Tibet issue;

·       In June, the CTC launched a “youth engagement for Tibet” project and held an exchange program with Ottawa-based Tibetan interns;

·       In September, the CTC appealed to PM Justin Trudeau to support Tibet during his first official visit to China;

·       In October 2016, the CTC urged the Government of Canada to demand reciprocal access for Canadian diplomats wishing to visit Tibet.

There is much more work to do…

In November, the CTC welcomed Tibet’s political leader Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay on his first visit to Ottawa since the election of Canada’s new government.  Dr. Sangay met with Members of Parliament, received a standing ovation in the House of Commons, and appeared before the Parliamentary Subcommittee on International Human Rights.  You can read more about these events on the CTC Facebook page /Canada Tibet, or on Twitter @CanadaTibet.

Please take a moment to make a generous donation today. Your contribution will be used directly for Tibet advocacy in Canada.  With our heartfelt thanks,
