Former political prisoner Ashagtsang Norlha (49) succumbs to torture injuries in Lhasa

Ashagtsang Norlha, who is a resident of Kham Derge Jomdha dzong Pema Shang, was arrested in 27th June 2009 when he led a group of Tibetans in Jomdha dzong to protest the arrest of Gyurmey Gonpo and Gyaltsang Dorjee who were arrested for spearheading a Mass Non-Cooperation movement in the area involving Boytcott of farming, Patriotic- re-education campaign & mass evacuation of Monastery etc in Jomdha in solidarity with the 2008 Tibetan Uprising. Norlha was later sentenced to two years imprisonment. However severe torture during the imprisonment had left him in critical health condition leading to his release on medical parole in 2011. Since his release despite series of medical treatment, his health continues to deteriorate and finally he succumbs to the ailment in Lhasa a fortnight ago on 27th December. (Source: RFA/Tibetan)
