January 13, 2012

DHARAMSHALA: Former Tibetan political prisoner, Norlha Ashagtsang,
49, passed away on 27 December 2011 in Lhasa, reports say.

Norlha hails from Dokham Derge dzong’s Pemashang town in eastern
Tibet.
Norlha was arrested on 27 June 2009 when he was protesting against
the arrest of two Tibetans, Gyurmey Gonpo and Gyatsang Dorje, by
the Chinese police for taking part in a non co-operation movement
against the Chinese in Derge town.

Norlha was taken to Chamdo and was sentenced to two years in prison
by a local Chinese court.

After a prolonged illness due to injuries sustained in torture
sessions in the prison, Norlha was released on medical grounds in
2011.
Even after repeated medical check ups, Norlha was not able to
recover fully and passed away at a hospital in Lhasa.

Reports also say that, Bulug, another Tibetan Political prisoner
who was arrested in 2009 by the Chinese police, passed away in
