The Great Firewall’s latest block of
appears to coincide with the March 20 release by
the Tibetan Government-in-Exile of a graphic
video showing Chinese forces beating Tibetans
during protests that occurred in March of last
year. (The video, which includes disturbing
scenes of violence, can be seen here).

While the Chinese government has not directly
addressed whether it had blocked Youtube, the
Xinhua News Agency, citing an unidentified
official with China’s Tibetan regional
government, reported Tuesday that the video was
fabricated and showed fake wounds.

"The Dalai Lama group is used to fabricating lies
to deceive the international community and the
aim of this video is to hide the truth of the
March 14th riot,” Xinhua quoted an unnamed official as saying.

Lobsang Nyandak, a representative for the Dalai
Lama in New York City, denied that the video was
fake. "The freedom struggle of the Tibetan people
is not based on lies. We know the minute we
fabricate news like the Communist regime does,
our struggle will lose its credibility,” he said.
“Truth will remain our uncompromising principle.
The inhuman torture footage shown are a fraction
of truths that the world has seen," he said.
